Quickstart

Install the CLI

Run the installer in a terminal.

curl -fsSL https://cdn.edgepython.com/cli/install.sh | sh

The installer works on macOS, Linux and WSL.

Open a new shell and check the install. It prints the version of the CLI.

edge --version

To build the CLI from source instead, follow Install in the CLI reference.

Create hello.py with the code below. You can also edit it and run it here in the browser.

def greet(name):
  return f"Hello, {name}!"

for who in ["world", "edge", "python"]:
  print(greet(who))

{}

Hello, world!
Hello, edge!
Hello, python!

Output

Run it from your terminal.

edge run hello.py

There is no build step. The CLI compiles the file and runs it.
